Primary Schools Lunchtimes

Playground Leaders are pupils from years 5 and 6 (10 to 11 years old) who provide activities for pupils from years 1 to 4 (5 to 9 years old). The Leaders apply for the post via a letter expressing interest or by completing an application form. Some schools even interview pupils for the positions. Training is then given to the successful candidates. They are taught how to deliver activities by thinking about six key principles; safety, responsibility, opportunities, co-operation, enjoyment and instructions. The Leader's role incorporates organisation, leadership and teamwork skills. They then follow a lunchtime rota, which details the days they are on duty as Playground Leaders.

School Sports Partnerships

Armthorpe School
3.00 – 4.00pm

This is a Level 2 award in Community Sports Leadership which is for people aged 16 upwards, who wish to deliver sporting activities in their community. This is a nationally recognised qualification sitting at Level 2 on the national qualifications framework. The qualification provides the key skills required to plan and deliver community sports activities. The aim for delivering this award is to prepare responsible, motivated and confident young people who can independently lead safe and enjoyable activities in their schools and in the community. Members who take this qualification will become part of the first Armthorpe Leadership Academy and will start to deliver activities to other young people in their school or in the community.

Armthorpe Leadership Academy  Back to top

A Leadership Academy is a group of young people aged between 16 – 19 years who are committed to volunteering in delivering sporting activities in their school and in the community. This will develop them as young leaders but will also increase the numbers of young people participating in physical activity outside the school curriculum time. Carl (Sports and Recreation Officer) is currently working alongside John Deeney (School Sports Co-ordinator) and The Armthorpe School’s PE department in running this programme. The Leadership Academy targets their delivery in local primary schools, youth club, community centre, etc.
